Client Funds Milestone
InstantClient enters payment details and funds the milestone. Payment is processed immediately via Stripe and held in secure escrow.
Work Period
VariableLawyer completes the work for the milestone. Funds remain safely in escrow during this period, protected for both parties.
Lawyer Submits Work
InstantLawyer clicks "Submit for Approval" and provides a summary of completed work. Client receives an email notification to review.
Client Approves & Releases
InstantClient reviews the work and clicks "Approve & Release Payment". Funds are immediately released from escrow to the lawyer's Stripe account.
Bank Deposit
2-3 business daysStripe transfers the funds (minus 1% platform fee) to the lawyer's connected bank account. This typically takes 2-3 business days.
Payout Details for Lawyers
Standard Payout Schedule
Once a client releases payment, Stripe processes the payout to your bank account. Funds typically arrive within 2-3 business days, depending on your bank.

- Wednesday release:Arrives Fri-Mon

First Payout
Your first payout may take 7-14 days as Stripe verifies your account. After this initial verification, all future payouts follow the standard 2-3 day schedule.
For Clients
When Is My Card Charged?
Your card is charged immediately when you fund a milestone. The charge will appear on your statement as "LAWCHAIN" or "STRIPE" within 1-2 business days.
Can I Cancel After Funding?
If you funded a milestone but work hasn't started, you can request a refund through the case interface. See our Refunds & Cancellations guide for details.
Payment Receipt
You'll receive an email receipt immediately after funding a milestone. You can also view all transaction history in your dashboard under Payments.
Common Questions
Why does the bank deposit take 2-3 days?
This is standard for all bank transfers in the US banking system (ACH). Stripe initiates the transfer immediately, but banks require processing time. This isn't something we can speed up.
Can I get faster payouts?
Stripe offers Instant Payouts for eligible accounts, which can deposit funds within minutes for a small fee. Check your Stripe dashboard for availability.
What if my payout is delayed?
Occasional delays can happen due to bank processing or holidays. If your payout hasn't arrived after 5 business days, check your Stripe dashboard or contact support.
